ACCREDITATION

bullet

Elliott's Store and Museum, Lower Fore Street Saltash has become an Accredited Museum

bullet

The Accreditation Scheme is administered by the Arts Council England and the process has taken the volunteers at Elliott's around three years to complete.

bullet

The Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for UK Museums. To qualify Elliott's Museum has had to meet standards on how it is managed, for the services it offers and how it cares for its collection.

bullet

The museum had to prepare and agree many policies and procedures including caring for its exhibits and staff, security, welcoming visitors and prove that it is financially resilient.

The Museum is particularly proud of the fact that the award has been achieved by a small team of volunteers, aided by the Museum Development Officer for Cornwall.

Once a quite exhaustive electronic submission was made to the Arts Council, a visit by one of their representatives followed. This was to reconcile all the paperwork and verify the provision made by the museum. This visit was in August and was a little tense, as everything was scrutinised in forensic detail. Fortunately  the Arts Council representative was very thorough but fair.

Not only is the award prestigious but it also enables the museum to access further training and funding streams.
